Release Notes

Download the package.

Install the package (Go to the developer-section and install the package from there). There will be 3 files installed: PeterD.Compress.dll in the bin-folder, PeterDCompress.config in the config-folder and InstallPeterDCompress.ascx in the usercontrols-folder.

Edit your web.config file. Make sure the following keys are as shown:

<add key="umbracoDebugMode" value="false" />
<compilation defaultLanguage="c#" debug="false" batch="false">
<scriptResourceHandler enableCompression="false" enableCaching="true" />
Next, add 1 line to the <httpModules>-section

<add name="HttpCompressModule" type="PeterD.Compress.HttpModule,PeterD.Compress"/>
Next, add 2 lines to <httpHandlers>-section:

<remove verb="*" path="js.axd,css.axd"/>
<add verb="*" path="js.axd,css.axd" type="PeterD.Compress.CompressionHandler,PeterD.Compress"/>
Save the web.config and then clear your cache and control-reload your umbraco-UI.

v3 and V4RC1:
Open the file umbraco/js/umbracoDefault.js.
Goto line 473-ish (recycleBin.src= "&rnd=" + Math.random()*10;)
Remove the second + (else it breaks the js in the compressed version).
If the extra + isn't there, then you allready have the latest file that is correct :)
In case you want to uninstall, first, edit your web.config to remove the lines as mentioned in the install-section under httpmodules and httphandlers and save the file. Then delete the 3 files mentioned above. Your website will then start serving uncompressed data again.

Exclude directories or files from being compressed
If you somehow want to exlude certain directories from being compressed, you can do that by editing the peterdcompress.config-file in the config-folder.
Just add a new line to the ExcludedPath section with the directory you want exluded.

Frontend, Backend or Both
To disable frontend or backend compression, edit the PeterDCompress.config-file. Set the values to false accordingly.

Known issues
If you have a stylsheet in your header that uses an IF clause, it won't work. To fix this, add that stylesheet to the excluded files.
